unexpected error, code 1100, corrupted memory?

While working on a native (C++) project, I rarely got a strange error

unexpected error, code 1100, corrupted memory?

The error is rare and difficult to reproduce. I googled for it and could not find anything so it is probably very specific to my context. I could not find the reason but enabling compiler optimization (DEBUG -> RELEASE seemed to help). Unfortunately, as it might be a race condition, I'm not 100% it solves the problem.
