Problem Statement
You are fed up of recompiling your latex files just to tune your equations (and you don't want to install existing tools) (and you might want to use it offline).
Solution
I now mainly use the amazing Katex (both light so embeddable and very good) for this purpose.
This simple webpage uses a modified version of a javascript from Steve Cheng. The script is used to convert latex equations to MathML which is rendered by your browser (hopefully). Interactivity is added by simply refreshing the view when you change the latex source.
The “use MathJax” checkbox allows you to use a more powerfull framework called MathJax but it requires an internet connection. As far as the simple solution is concerned, you only need the current webpage and a single 60kB javascript file.
